05/29/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of H.T.,

Greetings on this Memorial Day weekend.  We pray for all those who will be traveling this holiday weekend.  Here are some updates to pass along to you:

  1. “How many attended the LMM cookout on Monday?” you ask.  We had a total of 55, with 21 of them being our guests (spouses).  A great time was had by all!

  2. The June Messenger was mailed out yesterday, Thursday.

  3. Don’t forget that this Sunday, with it being a 5th Sunday, we will have One Combined Worship Service @ 10:00 a.m.  This will be an opportunity to get to know others in the congregation, who may attend “the other service on Sunday morning.”

  4. A Pot Luck meal will follow so please bring a dish or two to share as we will gather in Fellowship Hall after worship.  Speaking of the food, you may drop off your dishes in the Fellowship Hall kitchen before worship and those working in the kitchen will warm up items, as needed.

  5. On Sunday I will again be preaching from our First Reading, the book of Acts  [16:16-34].  This is a very unusual story involving a slave girl  who has the ability to foretell the future.  Paul and Silas free her from the spirt that possesses her and end up in prison. The question we will grabble with, is this, “What do we do when things don’t go as planned?”

If you are in town this weekend, we would love to have you in worship and then eat together.

In the name of the risen Christ,

Pastor Fischer

05/22/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates:

  1. Sunday will be Senior Sunday when we recognize both our high school seniors and our Senior Citizens.  Part of the worship service will be the Blessing of the Graduates.

  2. My sermon message for Sunday will focus on Lydia in our First Lesson as we talk about the Legacy we will be leaving behind us.  I encourage you to read Acts 16:9-15 and google the life of Lydia in preparation.

  3. We still have some yellow Irises remaining.  If you would like some, please bring plastic bags and help yourself. They are located underneath the van carport.  More than likely, we will offer them for another week before putting them out on the curb for city pickup.

  4. Congratulations are in order for Andrew and Erin Merck on the birth of Peter Michael Merck, born May 13.  Andrew and Erin have been faithful visitors the past few months at the Late Service and plan to be joining our church family in the near future.

  5. Ellen Walters recently moved to The Legacy.  Her new address is:  The Legacy of Anderson, 3501 N Hwy 81, Room #139, Anderson, SC 29621.

  6. You can now order your 3rd set of COVID Test kits at:  https://www.covid.gov/tests

PENTECOST SUNDAY, June 5th

PENTECOST SUNDAY, June 5th Pentecost is significant in both the Old and New Testaments.
“Pentecost” is actually the Greek name for a festival known in the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks
(Leviticus 23:15; Deuteronomy 16:9).  The Greek word means “fifty” and refers to the fifty days that have elapsed since Easter (Acts 2:1-21).

Please wear red.

We will be confirming Landen Moody, Katelin Passow, and Lucy Roehrs that day.

05/15/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates to pass along to you:

  • Mary Ann Hobbs and Claude Calloway have been busy in our Prayer Garden, thinning out our Irises earlier today.  If you are interested in some yellow Irises, help yourself.  There are lots of them, underneath the van carport.  They are all lonely and are looking for a good home.

  • Sunday, we will celebrate with Mara Weeks and her family upon receiving her First Communion at the Late Service.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the First Reading, Acts 11:1-18, which is a very unusual reading.  Please read over this ahead of time and see where the Holy Spirit leads you.  This usual passage requires an usual sermon title: “God’s Bouncer or God’s Ambassador?”
    Thoughts to ponder:

    • What is the role of a bouncer?
    • How do we sometimes play the role of a bouncer when it comes to matters of faith?
    • When are we ambassadors of Christ?
    • What does this strange passage tell us in our treatment of others?

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

05/08/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of HTLC,

A few things to pass along to you this week:

  1. Congratulations to Bob and Susan Straup on the birth of a grandson!  Riley Holmes Straup, son of Ryan and Katlyn Straup, entered this world on April 30th.

  2. A big thank to all who gave toward the WELCA Mother’s Day offering which will go to a female student at our Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.  The names of all women, In Honor Of and In Memory Of, will be listed in Sunday’s bulletin.

  3. If you have someone in your family who will be graduating this spring from a  high school, technical school or college, please contact the church office with the information.  The info will be included in the June Messenger.

  4. Sunday will be Mother’s Day, of course, but also Shepherd Sunday.  Our scripture readings will be not only Psalm 23, but our gospel reading is John 10:22-30.   I ask you to read this over and think about what it means to have our Lord as our Shepherd and to be included as one of His sheep.

Looking forward to worshipping with you Sunday,

Pastor Fischer
