5/14/23 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church,

Here are some things of interest to pass along to you concerning some happenings within the congregation:

  • Following up with the announcement I gave last Sunday, Robert Allen continues his stay in a hospital in California.  As of this morning, doctors are still running tests to determine the severity of a blockage in his bowels.

  • We are expecting the lock on the church front door to be fixed sometime tomorrow!  We have patiently been waiting for a part that had been ordered.  Hopefully you will be able to use the electronic keypad very soon.

  • We are gathering the names and information of those in the congregation who will be graduating from high school, Technical School, or College this spring.  Please contact the church office to relay that info to Pat or simply send it to me with a REPLY .  The names and info will be printed in the June edition of The Messenger.

  • Sunday, being Mother’s Day, we will be recognizing all the mothers present in worship during the announcements.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the Gospel reading, John 14:15-21 as we hear how comforts us like a mother.

  • The Service Committee invites you to help make notes of encouragement for the SnackPack Program.  We will be doing this on Saturday, May 20, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Office Conference Room.  If you would like more information, please see your May edition of The Messenger or a Sunday bulletin, or contact Jamie Corrigan 864-224-8070 or Leslie Cox 301-788-9035.

  • On Wednesday of next week, May 17, our monthly Family Fun Night returns as we take a look at “The Parable of the Lost Sheep.”  The meal will be provided.  We will gather from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Come join us!

  • On Saturday of next week, May 20, the Service Committee is sponsoring an outreach project that will take place in the comfort of the Office Conference Room.  As you know, many in the congregation participate from time to time in the assembling of food items for the children of Anderson through the SnackPack program.  Now we are looking for some volunteers to gather to write notes of encouragement for the SnackPack program.  Supplies will be provided and examples shared.  If you are not able to attend that day and would like to do this in the convenience of your home, you may do so.  For more information, please contact Jamie Corrigan 864-224-8070 or Leslie Cox 301-788-9035.

SnackPack Notes of Encouragement

School starts August 2 this year! That means the United Way SnackPack Program will be
gearing up to pack weekend SnackPacks in July and beginning August 4, SnackPacks will be
distributed weekly throughout the school year to needy elementary school students in Anderson
County.
Many members of our congregation help pack these SnackPack bags throughout the year.
Besides packing the bags there are other ways you can support the SnackPack Program. Each
SnackPack contains a handwritten note of encouragement made by volunteers. It’s a simple
message to let each child know someone is thinking about them. Over 750 SnackPacks are
distributed each week. Multiply that by 36 weeks of school and you will quickly see that over
27,000 notes are needed for the year. Your help in making these cards is greatly needed!
The Service Committee invites you to join us on Saturday, May 20 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in
the Office Conference Room to make notes of encouragement to be included in the SnackPacks.
Supplies and suggestions for making these cards will be furnished. Of course, if you can’t join us
that day you can still make the notes on your own. Just keep in mind the messages may not
contain any religious references. These messages are distributed to elementary age children who
may not be able to read cursive writing, so please print. You can leave your completed notes in a
box on the table in the room off the narthex. The Service Committee will collect these by June 5.

5/17/23 Family Fun Night

FAMILY FUN NIGHT
After taking two months off for Lent/Easter, we will gather in Fellowship Hall for a time of Food, Fun & Fellowship around a Biblical theme. Adults and Kids of all ages are invited to join us! There will be crafts, games, and song. The meal will be provided.

05/07/23 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of the Congregation,

 

Here are a few things of interest to share with you:

 

  • Today is the National Day of Prayer. On the first Thursday in May, of each year, the United States Congress asks people to “turn to God in prayer and meditation.”  Believe it or not, the President is required by law to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.

  • Speaking of prayer, we continue to pray for George Mason, who was readmitted to AnMed last night to stabilize his heart rate.

  • Sunday, during the announcements, we will be recognizing our Senior Citizens with us in worship, those 70+ in our congregation.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the Second Reading, from 1 Peter 2:2-20, as we focus on what does it mean when we call ourselves followers of Christ.  What does that look like?

  • As part of the Late Service Sunday, we will be baptizing Ben Fortner and receiving Christina Fischer as new members of our congregation.

  • With Mother’s Day just around the corner, you again have the opportunity to make a donation In Memory Of or In Honor Of your mother.  WELCA is sponsoring a special offering to be received and then given to deserving female students at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC.  The names will be listed in the bulletin on Mother’s Day.  Just fill out the form in the bulletin or newsletter, or contact Pat in the office.  The deadline to do this is Sunday, May 7.

  • We are in the process of determining if there is a desire for a Women’s Bible Study group in our congregation. The group would meet in the evenings.  All ages would be welcome.  We are looking at starting up sometime in the fall.  If you are interested, please contact Lauren Guthre at leguthre@yahoo.com with the following information:

    • Which weekday would work best for you
    • What timeframe would work best (6:00-7:00 p.m., 6:30-7:30 p.m., etc.)
