Walking With Paul
We continue to meet each Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. for a six-week journey using the “Walking With Paul” devotional. This is a daily walking program which includes reflection on Paul’s ministry as well as simple diet changes to care for mind, body, and soul! We will meet as a group each Saturday to discuss our journey and to get tips on diet, stress reduction and more. Come join us! Our group leader is Amy Goodson.

At both of our worship services on June 4th, we will celebrate Pentecost Sunday as the birthday of the Christian Church. Pentecost is significant in both the Old and New Testaments. “Pentecost” is actually the Greek name for a festival known in the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15; Deuteronomy 16:9). The Greek word means “fifty” and refers to the fifty days that have elapsed since Easter (Acts 2:1-21).
This day is also especially important as we will be acknowledging seven of our young people at the Late Service for their dedication in completing two years of formal instruction in the Christian faith. Many of us referred to these classes growing up as Catechism Classes or Confirmation Classes. On this Sunday these youth will be taking part in the Rite of Affirmation of Faith, reaffirming their baptism.

During recent months, the ladies of HTLC’s WELCA groups have been busy collecting household items for Family Promise for a family moving into permanent housing, making fleece blankets and pillowcases for the Linus Project conducted by the Electric City Quilting Guild, collecting cleaning/hygiene products for Family Promise and making quilts which will be donated to Lutheran World Relief.
WELCA Sunday will be held on Sunday, May 7, when all the activities of the service will be conducted by Congregational women. Jane Cahaly has gratuitously agreed to deliver the message on that Sunday. Funds collected via the WELCA envelopes that will be distributed on that day will go toward a scholarship for a female student at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
As presented in the April issue of The Messenger, the South Carolina WELCA Convention will be held June 910, 2017, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. If you would like to attend the Convention as a Visitor, please contact Roz Eckardt. Registration deadline for Visitors is May 29, 2017. Donations for the Convention Projects, as detailed in the April Messenger, can be placed in the collection boxes in the Church Office or in the Narthex. Monetary donations or gift cards should be given to Roz Eckardt or to one of the WELCA group leaders. Spring Congregation Work Day Saturday March 18th update
The chance of rain never materialized so we had a pleasant but cool and breezy morning.
Skip Knight, Dan Hunnicutt and Ernie Thorns trimmed the twelve shrubs along the side of the handicap ramp and Education Building. The clippings were raked up and moved to the pickup area at the side of the front parking lot. Also, the steps to the furnace room were swept of leaves and debris to keep the drain clear.
Jeff Eckardt cleaned and wiped down all of the playground equipment removing dirt and mold that accumulated on the surfaces over winter. Cobwebs were cleaned out of the playhouse.
Barbara Cleveland cleaned the Fellowship Hall side garden and planned future plantings.
Edna Moore weeded and cleaned the Prayer Garden and removed dead material.
Thanks to the participants for working to maintain our facilities fine appearance.

In the tradition of the Church, Holy Trinity will have a Service of Healing. For centuries Luke’s role as gospel writer has been rivaled only by his reputation as physician. Not only does he emphasize the healing work of the Lord in the gospel, but he also demonstrates the healing power which the Spirit gave to the apostles in the early church.
We believe as followers of Christ Jesus that our Lord desires our wholeness and healing.
Broken bodies, minds or spirits are not our God’s intent for us. Yet, we live in a world broken by sin.
During a Service of the Word for Healing, we gather for the purpose of hearing God’s healing Word for us. The Rite of Healing is a time of intentional prayer for healing — healing of mind, body, spirit and relationship. We pray intentionally for the healing of friends, family, and ourselves.
After the Scripture Readings, Sermon, and Prayers of the People, time will be given for silent prayer and for those who desire to come forward and kneel, as part of the Rite, the minister places his/her hands on the recipient’s head and prays. Oil, the ancient balm of healing and anointing, will mark your forehead in the shape of a cross.
Again, your prayers may be for yourself or a loved one. The Rite of Healing, an act as old as the Church, calls to our minds the promises of God to comfort and to remain with us.
You are encouraged to invite a friend and join us for this evening.

Future HTLC Work Project
STEP RIGHT UP
We all know that Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is blessed with its share of steps. Some of them are on the outside and some on the inside.
What we often forget is that steps on the outside often come with handrails that need attention from time to time.
With the cooler temperatures we are now ready to address the 17 metal handrails/gates on the church property.
We are looking for those who have power tools and an interest to beautify God’s grounds through this process.
We are removing the rust and loose paint and repainting rails. A crew of volunteers had a workday last week.
We expect this to take several weeks. If you are able to help out please contact Ernie Thoms or Pastor Fischer.
