All Saints Day

On All Saints Day, November 6, we pause for a moment to give thanks to God for those saints of the church who have entered the Church Triumphant, especially those who have died since last year’s All Saint’s Day. We praise God for the memories of His children who have meant so much to His church and to His People.

CONGREGATIONAL ADVENT EVENT

Although the world has already started stocking shelves with Christmas décor, airing Christmas commercials and blaring Christmas music over the radio, Lutheran Christians know that before Christmas comes Advent. The definition of the word Advent is, “the arrival of a notable, person, place or event.” It is during this first season of our liturgical calendar, that we prepare for the Christmas coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This year, the Learning Committee will once again be sponsoring an event to begin our Advent journey with a craft project.

This event is for all families and individuals who would like to participate. This project will help us keep our focus on the true meaning of the season.

WHEN: Sunday, November 27 at 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Fellowship Hall
WHO: Everyone. A signup sheet will be in the narthex to help plan for materials.

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

 

Here are this week’s updates concerning the congregation:

 

  1. The Messenger was mailed out earlier this week, on Tuesday.

  2. Even though we will not be blessing the Time/Talent Sheets/Pledges as part of the worship service, you may still return them at any time in the next several weeks.  You can do this by either placing them in the offering plate during the worship service, or mailing them back to the church.  If you need extra copies, they are located in the Narthex.

  3. Don’t forget to reset your clocks Saturday before you go to bed.  The time changes and I don’t want you to give up an extra hour of sleep unnecessarily.

  4. Sunday is All Saints Sunday when we will remember those who have gone on to be with the Lord, especially those who have died since last year’s All Saints Service.  As part of the Prayers of God’s People, we will be remembering:

Family Fun Night

FAMILY FUN NIGHT
We are asking for only a commitment of one evening each month as we gather in
Fellowship Hall for a time of Food, Fun & Fellowship around a Biblical theme. This is for all ages – children, youth and adults. There will be crafts, games, and song. The meal will be
provided.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 9 – Note the new time: 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
WHAT: Giving Thanks

10/30/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

 

Here are a few things to pass along to you at this time:

 

  1. This past Sunday, we were grateful to see Krista Spoores and her son, Kyle,r at the Late Service.  You will recall that Krista joined the Navy several years ago.

  2. Don’t forget that Saturday is Jane Cahaly’s Salt and Light Foundation lunch at Tuckers Restaurant from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  There is no charge for the meal.  The topic will be leaving a Gospel shaped legacy for those placed into our care (grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc.). To reserve your spot, call Jane at 864-314-2561.

  3. This Sunday, October 30, is Reformation Sunday.  You are encouraged to wear the color red as the festive color of the day.  The cross will be processed in and out of the sanctuary as part of the worship service.  You are reminded that we always turn and face the cross when it enters and leaves the sanctuary.

  4. With Sunday being a 5th Sunday, as is our custom, we will have One-Combined worship service at 10:00 a.m.  You are invited after the service to Fellowship Hall where we will gather for a Potluck Meal.  Please bring a dish or two to share.

  5. Please bring your filled out Time/Talent/Pledge card with you Sunday.  A basket will again be sent around as part of the offering, so that a blessing can be given over these at the altar.  If you need spare copies of the Time/Talent sheet, they are located in the narthex.

  6. Also, we ask you to bring back with you, your filled TOTSOME (Trick-Or-Treat-So-Others-May-Eat) bag to worship.  These can be placed in the room off the narthex.  This event is a major food drive for AIM to restock their shelves to feed those hungry in our area.  Or, if you wish, you can stop by the church during the week, let yourself in using the door code, and place your bag in the room at your convenience.

DEUTSCHES FEST UPDATE

DEUTSCHES FEST UPDATE
Thanks to all who attended and made our Deutsches Fest such a success.  A good time was had by all.

A total of $1,883.00 was collected and will be donated to the Good Neighbor Cupboard to help feed those in need in our community.

09/23/33 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are some things of interest going on in the congregation:

  1. A big “Thank You” goes out to Diane Richardson who filled in for Pat in the office this week, as Pat was out on vacation.

  2. Through a lot of time and effort from many of you, and a good time had by all, we raised $1,883.00 at our Deutsches Fest this past Saturday!  This money will be given to the Good Neighbor Cupboard to fight hunger in our community.

  3. By now you should have received your household’s copy of the Time and Talent Sheet and Pledge Card for 2023.  Please pray over this and ask God to guide you in your commitment to Him through Holy Trinity.  During the worship service Sunday and on October 30, two wicker baskets will be passed around as part of the Offering.  Please place your sheets into the baskets as a blessing will be prayed over them as part of the worship service.  If you need any part of the volunteer positions of the Time and Talent Sheets explained, contact me and I will be glad to share what each committee and what each volunteer will be asked to do in 2023.  This information will be used to schedule all worship assistants, altar guild, committees, for the next year.

  4. Sunday, the Youth will be passing out bags to the congregation as part of the Trick-Or-Treat-So-Others-May-Eat food drive for AIM. Then on Sunday, October 30, we ask that all filled bags be returned to the church.

  5. Sunday is Breast Cancer Awareness Sunday.  You are asked to wear the color pink In Honor Of or In Memory Of those who have fought or are fighting cancer.

  6. Sunday, I will be preaching on the Gospel, Luke 18:9-14, as we hear of two men who go up to the Temple to pray.  One is heard by God and one is not.  Come as we explore another aspect of prayer.

  7. With Sunday, October 30, being a 5th Sunday (and Reformation Sunday) we will be having One-Combined Worship Service at 10:00 a.m.  (no Sunday School).  A Potluck Meal will follow in Fellowship Hall.  You are asked to bring a dish or two to share.

  8. An update on Allan Cole:  he is doing great following his surgery to remove his esophagus cancer a week ago today. He is expected to return home from Emory the first of next week!

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates:

  • I am saddened to inform you of the death of Bill Christmas earlier this afternoon at the Rainey Hospice House.  We keep his children – Cindy, Andy, and Anna, and all of the family members in our thoughts and prayers.   Sullivan-King will be handling the arrangements.  “Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, William Anderson Christmas, III.  Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming.  Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.”   – Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 283 
  • Our Deutches Fest will take place this Saturday in Fellowship Hall and in the back parking lot from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  After being away from worship the past several weeks, Bill had intended to be with us Saturday for his return to being active in our congregation.  Some of his last words were that we would “raise a glass” on his behalf at this event. 
  • If you are not aware of the connection to the congregation, the young man killed Monday afternoon on Midway Road in a traffic accident, Daniel Bagwell, was Sharon Christmas’ nephew.  We keep all of Daniel’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
  • After recently finishing radiation and chemo therapy for cancer of his esophagus, Allan Cole underwent surgery most of today at Emory University Hospital.  His surgery went well and finished up about 5:30 p.m. We keep Jeri, and the family in our thoughts and prayers.
  • Thank you so much for the many responses I received after last week’s volunteer requests!  Both positions are now filled.
  • In order to reduce some of Pat’s workload as our church secretary, we are in the process of making both bulletins identical to each other.  You will recall that when COVID began in 2020, we started sending out an email version of the bulletin that was designed to be used in conjunction with our recorded worship service.  This bulletin has been slightly different and longer than the one we print on Sunday morning.  Beginning today, with the one I will send out in a few minutes, the email version of the bulletin will be identical with Sunday’s version except that the order of the pages is slightly different.  We plan to figure out a way to make the pages in order in the near future. 
  • Sunday, I will be preaching on one of my favorite topics – prayer.  I will be using the gospel lesson, Luke 18:1-8 AND the Old Testament lesson from Genesis 32:22-31 to talk about what persistent prayer looks like.
