9/18/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Some things of interest to pass along to you on this Thursday:

  1. This coming Sunday, at the Late Service, we will be doing a Farewell Blessing and Godspeed for Jeff and Roz Eckardt, who are moving back to Illinois.

  2. Tickets for our Deutches Fest go on sale beginning on Sunday, $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for children, 12 and under. See a Church Council member to purchase tickets or contact Pat in the church office.  The Church Council decided on Monday evening that all funds raised this year will go to Good Neighbor Cupboard to help fight hunger in our area.

  3. Beginning Sunday and going until the end of the month, we are beginning a new outreach ministry – “Gathering and Giving.”  During this time-frame we will be collecting needed items for Calvary Home for Children.  Items include: Diapers of any size, baby wipes, clothes washing detergent, and cleaning products.  All donations should be placed in the room off the narthex.

  4. Don’t forget to fill out the Advisory Ballot form in the bulletin and return it by Sunday, September 25, if you have someone in mind who you feel would be good to serve on the Church Council next year.  You can submit up to 4 individuals. Just drop the names into the ballot boxes in the narthex and sacristy or mail back to the church office.

  5. We have a new updated amount received for the Gideons.  As you know, the Gideon Ministry spoke to our congregation on Sunday, August 28.   $922.00 was given during the worship services, and since then, another $600.00 was mailed in for a grand total of $1522.00 which is by far the largest amount we have ever donated!

  6. Sunday I will be preaching on the gospel reading, Luke 16:1-13, the Parable of the Shrewd Manager.  If you were the pastor, what would you preach on, based on this text?  This reading is considered one of the most difficult to understand.

  7. I am very pleased to announce that we will be receiving 10 new members into the congregation on Sunday, September 25!

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

New Gathering and Giving Projects

“Gathering and Giving”

Holy Trinity is a congregation that loves to serve. In an effort to build on the enthusiastic participation in our Saturday Servants and SnackPack programs, the Service Committee is initiating a new opportunity for our members to serve our community. Many non-profits in our community are struggling to meet the needs of their clients. We can help through short, simple collection projects – by “Gathering and Giving”. Once a need is identified a brief list of items to be donated will be publicized in the newsletter and bulletin. Donations can be left in the room off the narthex. At the end of the two-week period the donations will be delivered to designated charity/non-profit.

Our first “Gathering and Giving” project is for Calvary Home for Children.
Calvary Home for Children is a provider of foster care for displaced children in Upstate South Carolina. Their mission is to provide help, hope, and a loving home to abused and neglected children in a Christian environment. They currently have five licensed foster homes.

We want to support their efforts by gathering the following supplies:
• Diapers of any size (This is currently a critical need.)
• Baby wipes
• Clothes washing detergent
• Cleaning products such as dishwashing detergent, multi-purpose cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, etc. (with the exclusion of Lysol spray/wipes)

We are asking for donations on Sunday, September 18th and Sunday, September 25th or during the weeks previous to these dates. Donations can be left in the room off of the narthex. Cleaning products can be left in the gray tub and diapers and wipes should be placed on the table.
If you have questions about this project or suggestions for a future project, please contact Jamie Corrigan at 864-224-8070 or Leslie Cox at 301-788-9035.

10/15/22 Deutsches Fest

SAVE THE DATE
After a 3-year hiatus due to COVID, we will return to celebrating our Deutsches Fest!

On Saturday, October 15, from 4-7 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host its 7th Annual Deutsches Fest, a German festival to celebrate our Lutheran heritage. We will again be inviting Abiding Savior Lutheran Church to join us. We will gather in our Fellowship Hall and dine on German foods like bratwurst, roast chicken and German side dishes. Beer, wine and softer beverages will be served. We will have German music, dancing and Gemütlichkeit, which does not have a direct English translation but describes an atmosphere which is comfortable and enjoyable.

Tickets will be $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for children (12 and younger) and will be available from a Church Council member or through the church office beginning September 18th. Tickets need to be purchased in advance to help us with the planning of the food. The deadline to purchase tickets is Sunday, October 9th.

If you’d be interested in making a German dish if we provide you with a recipe, please contact Virgil Hobbs. Mark your calendars now as we look forward to a wonderful afternoon/evening of fellowship for our congregation.
