7/14/24 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s congregational happenings:

• We had a tremendous turnout this past week for our Saturday Servants event. In fact, we had the largest numbers yet with 35 helping out! You are reminded that we will NOT gather this coming Saturday to make sandwiches as the 2nd Saturday of each month (for the entire year) is handled by another congregation. We will resume again on July 20 and 27.

• With our youth of the congregation and adult advisors leaving Monday to attend the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans, we will have a Rite of Blessing over them as part of the Late Service Sunday.

• Sunday, I will be preaching on the gospel, Mark 6:14-29, as we hear again the story of Herod ordering the beheading of John the Baptist and how this story might be applied to our life. I am sure I have peaked your interest.

• Earlier this week, we received a letter from two churches praying for our congregation as part of their ministry. They are St. James Lutheran Church in Graniteville and The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry. I have posted them on the bulletin board in the hallway of the Education Building, next to the library.

• I spoke with Shirely Ebert this morning and found out that Bill has been placed in the care of hospice about two weeks ago. You are asked to keep Bill and Shirley in your thoughts and prayers. Even though they moved to Lexington, SC two years ago, they are still members of Holy Trinity. Their address is listed in our church directory if you would like to send them a card.

WELCA NEWS

Our new women’s group, the “Dining Divas,” will start in May, and we decided on the 1st Thursday of each month to meet at 6:00 PM at different restaurants. There will be no leader (just Beth Cribbe as coordinator), no program, no projects, nothing to sign up for – just mingle, talk, and hopefully laugh with other Lutheran ladies in a social setting. The ONLY thing you will need to do is to RSVP to Beth Cribbe each month so she can make reservations for us at a restaurant.
First “Dining Divas” will take place:
Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 6:00 PM
at Carson’s Steak Warehouse,
150 W. Beltline Blvd.
Please RSVP
Beth Cribbe (call or text 864-617-6216 or email bcribbe1@gmail.com).

4/28/24 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s highlights:

  • We keep in our prayers Suzie Bannister as she recovers from recent gall bladder surgery.

  • We also pray for Don Simon who has been admitted to AnMed with a possible mild stroke.

  • Cathy Rudisill has moved to Ashton Park, apartment 518.

  • Be aware:  If you receive a text from me, asking you for a favor and to contact me, it is NOT from me.  It is a scam.  It is signed “Rev. J. Chris Fischer” which should be a tip off.

  • This coming Sunday is Youth Sunday when the youth of our congregation will be conducting both worship services.  Come and support our youth!

  • The Assisted Hearing Devices have arrived and are now available for use during our worship services.  These devices will amplify our sound system and you will be able to control the volume to your liking. If you are interest in using one, please see an usher on Sunday mornings.

  • WELCA has decided to create a new group for the women of the church whose only aim is to meet to eat and have Christian fellowship at local restaurants – called “Dining Divas.”   They will meet on the first Thursday evening of each month at 6:00 p.m.  You will need to let Beth Cribbe know of your intention a head of time so that adequate space will be reserved.  Their first dining event will be May 2 at Carson’s Steak Warehouse.  RSVP Beth Cribbe at 864-617-6216 or email bcribbe1@gmail.com

  • Attached is a photo of the Shepherd Window in our Sound Room, of which I spoke of last week in our message.

02/25/24 BOLD WOMEN SUNDAY

BOLD WOMEN SUNDAY
During both of our worship services on February 25, Holy Trinity will be celebrating the bold women in our life. It is on this day that we give thanks to God for all women who have acted or are acting boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. Some women are bold in their unceasing prayers. Other women are bold in their service to those in need. Still other women are bold in their advocacy or through their hospitality. Whether we live out our bold story of faith in the workplace, family, home, or community, our faith compels us to make a difference in the lives of others. It’s all about living out our baptismal call, about being a disciple of Christ. Brenda McGowan will be giving our Temple Talk on this day.

Fall Foothills Conference Meeting

Fall Foothills Conference Meeting
Saturday, October 21, 2023
St. Michael Lutheran Church
2619 Augusta Street
Greenville, SC 29605
Seasoned with Love

The women of St. Michael Lutheran Church WELCA are looking forward to hosting the Fall Foothills Conference on Saturday, October 21, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM in the church’s fellowship hall. You will be welcomed at the 9:30 a.m. registration with a light breakfast and coffee/juice.

We invite you to join us as a woman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a child of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The guest speaker will be Mandy Learo, a representative of Jasmine Road in Greenville, whose mission is to provide a path to healing and employment for women survivors of sex trafficking, prostitution and addiction. Jasmine Road is modeled after the very successful Thistle Farms non profit which was founded over 20 years ago in Nashville, TN. Join us to hear about the
mission, vision, history, residential program, and social enterprises that support and address the healing needs of each woman in this program. Our catered lunch will be prepared by Jasmine Kitchen, one of the numerous recovery opportunities that is a part of Jasmine Road.

Trick-or-Treat-So-Others-May-Eat

YOUTH
Trick -or-Treat- So- Others- May- Eat The Youth will meet after the Late Service on October
22nd for lunch and then go into our three assigned neighborhoods to distribute the bags. We will
once again have bags available for the congregation to make food donations. The congregation is
asked to pick up their bag on the 22nd and bring it back on the 29th filled with food items and
place them in the room off the Narthex. Then on October 29th, the Youth will return to the
neighborhoods to pick up the filled bags. We will need some vehicles to help with the pick-up.
If you are able to help, please see Amy Goodson.
