2019 LCY Convention

2019 LCY Convention
May 17-19 at Newberry College http://scsynod.us/lcyconvention

What is LCY Convention?

At our annual LCY Convention, we meet Jesus together and celebrate the ministry we share! We will join in large and small groups to learn, grow, play, and build community together, and conduct the business of our synod’s youth organization, SCLCY. Each youth can choose to participate in either the LIVING FAITH (standard programming), WORSHIP, or DRAMA track. We will amend our constitution, elect a new president, and each Conference will vote on their youth representative for our synod’s Youth Ministry Cabinet.
LCY Convention is a perfect opportunity for youth and adults to meet new people from around South Carolina, and see what it means that we’re Church together in the South Carolina Synod and in the ELCA!

Featuring ELCA Youth Gathering speaker Joe Davis!
Joe Davis is a nationally touring writer, speaker, and performer based in Minneapolis, MN. He is the frontman of emerging soul, funk, and spoken word ensemble, The Poetic Diaspora, and the co-founder and Artistic Director of H-Cubed: Harrison, Healing, and Harmony, a monthly event series centered on healing through the arts. As a student and educator, he has served as teaching artist at dozens of high schools and universities and most recently as the Artist-in-Residence at Luther Seminary, receiving a masters in Theology of the Arts.

WHAT IS BOLD WOMEN SUNDAY IS FEBRUARY 24TH

WHAT IS BOLD WOMEN SUNDAY IS FEBRUARY 24TH

It’s to honor and celebrate the bold women in our congregation and community.
“Be bold, take risks on account to the gospel, but believe more boldly in Jesus”, said Martin Luther.
And that’s what we celebrate through Bold Women’s Day. Mary Ann Hobbs will be the guest speaker for both services.

The WELCA banner was made by Diane Dye, daughter of Hattie Lever.

Walking with Jesus

Walking With Jesus
The New Year has come and gone but how about your resolutions? Did they include improving health and moving more? Do you need help sticking with these plans? Beginning Saturday, March 9th and running through April 13th, (excluding March 31″,) we will meet each week at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall to review the Bible study and to learn about “whole person health”. Then we will walk together as a group around the neighborhoods of the church. We will also have a group of “Parking Lot Pedestrians” who may want to join us but have limited mobility. This group will also learn simple chair and balance exercises. On March 31st, each participant is encouraged to take their increased movement on the road to work on an OIAM project of their choice. As we transition into the Lenten Season, we are encouraged to pray and study God’s Word. As we journey towards Good Friday and the cross, what a wonderful time to re-trace the actual footsteps of Jesus as he traveled with his ministry as we work to grow stronger in mind, body, and spirit. If you would like to join us, sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Please contact Amy Goodson, FCN, if you have any questions.

WALKING WITH THE JESUS
As the seasons begin to change, we will once again look at small steps
we can take to improve our health. This year, we will be using the
Walking with Jesus Bible study starting Saturday, September 22nd, through October 27th. Participants will use the materials to re-trace Jesus’ travels and life throughout the week while walking and taking
small steps to healthier lifestyle habits. The group will meet each
Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall to discuss our
journey and to get tips on diet, stress reduction and more. We will then walk as a group around the neighborhoods of the church. In order to have enough devotional books for all, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. This year, we are including all levels of fitness as well offering a “parking lot pedestrians” for those who are less agile or have other mobility issues. This group will walk in the parking lot and learn other simple chair exercises. Won’t you join us? For more information, please contact Amy Goodson, Faith Community Nurse.
