WALKING WITH THE JESUS 9/22/18 – 10/27/18

WALKING WITH THE JESUS
As the seasons begin to change, we will once again look at small steps
we can take to improve our health. This year, we will be using the
Walking with Jesus Bible study starting Saturday, September 22nd, through October 27th. Participants will use the materials to re-trace Jesus’ travels and life throughout the week while walking and taking
small steps to healthier lifestyle habits. The group will meet each
Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall to discuss our
journey and to get tips on diet, stress reduction and more. We will then walk as a group around the neighborhoods of the church. In order to have enough devotional books for all, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. This year, we are including all levels of fitness as well offering a “parking lot pedestrians” for those who are less agile or have other mobility issues. This group will walk in the parking lot and learn other simple chair exercises. Won’t you join us? For more information, please contact Amy Goodson, Faith Community Nurse.

4/29/18 QUILT DEDICATION

The beautiful quilts you see draped over each pew are now ready to be sent overseas. The quilters, at Holy Trinity have been very busy and their 28 quilts will be blessed during the service today and then mailed to Lutheran World Relief to those in need. The quilters thank everyone for their generous gifts of fabric for this worthy project.
You may make a donation to cover the cost of the shipping by writing a check to Holy Trinity and putting “shipping quilts” in the memo and placing it in the offering plate.

Jane Potter, Roz Eckardt, Ashley Rioux, Cherie Brown, Kim Hill, Shirley Ebert and Nancy Korn worked on the quilts.

Why Is That Dead Tree in the Church?

Why Is That Dead Tree in the Church?
You can’t help but notice the “dead” tree covered in caterpillars which have appeared in the Sanctuary. You may question -why is it here or what is it about?
This is a project between the LCY and the Sunday School children. Before we began making these creations, we discussed how things are different in both the church and nature this time of year. We discussed how there are some things “sleeping” in our worship such as the use of Alleluias. We also talked about how everything in our yards such as the grass and trees look dead but they too are just “sleeping”. We discussed how some of God’s creatures such as caterpillars make cocoons. Although we might think they are dead, they actually have rebirth as a butterfly.
This tree is actually here to help each of us to remember that while the weather often is cool and gray and the grass is brown and the trees bare, there is the hope that Spring is coming! Bulbs are blooming and the days are getting longer. Just as we have hope for Spring, Lent gives us a time to hope for Easter and the promise that the resurrection brings.
Just as the change of seasons brings surprises, keep watching the tree thru the Lenten season —there are more surprises to come!

Youth Gathering Update

YOUTH GATHERING UPDATE

As the weather starts to warm, we realize that summer and the National Youth Gathering is fast approaching. Due to the generosity of our church family, we have our airline tickets and down payment of our registration and hotel rooms paid for. At present, that leaves $3640.00 in our bank account with the following due: Registration completion ($2600.00, due by May 15th , the balance of the hotel rooms (due upon check out) $4914.00, for a total due of $7,514.00. This leaves us $3,874.00 left to raise. We will have one more event at which you can donate towards our cause. On the next 5th Sunday, April 29th, we will host a baked spaghetti plate sale after the combined worship service. We do ask for your support of these events. As always, any other donations would be greatly appreciated. This event is always a highlight for the youth and your generosity and support is a reflection of the love you have for our young people. Thanks again from all of the participants: Wyatt and Bowen Strang, Felder and Davis Fogle, Bree and Chase Plesko, Katie Fischer, Kathleen Dial, Krista Spoores, Max Roehrs, Pastor and Beth Fischer and Amy Goodson.

WALKING FOR LENT

WALKING FOR LENT
During Lent many use this time to practice “giving up” something while others may practice “taking up” something. What if you could do both? This Lenten season, the Health Ministry Committee invites you to “take up” healthy eating while “giving up some” of the ingredients and cooking practices that make our food less healthy. Starting Sunday, February 11th, every week, there will be a week’s worth of recipes available from the “Seasoning Lent” cookbook from Church Health. This cookbook includes healthy recipes, reflections, and prayer. The recipes are not only healthy but also easy and family friendly. These weekly packets of recipes will be in the Narthex each Sunday. Please take one per family. Please let Amy Goodson know if more copies are needed. Also, we will be starting a Lenten walking devotional starting Saturday, February 17th at 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Please contact Amy Goodson if you are interested in participating and if you need a devotional.
