HOPE AND HYGIENE DRIVE
September 15 and 22

The Service Committee is excited to announce our “Hope and Hygiene Drive”.
For two Sundays in September, September 15 and 22 we are accepting donations of toiletries and personal hygiene items to support two incredible organizations:
Clean Start and Haven of Rest Men’s and Women’s Ministries.

Clean Start serves the homeless, poor and marginalized in our community by providing facilities for them to shower, launder their clothing, access mail and phone, and to help direct them toward the availability of other services they may need.

Haven of Rest Men’s and Women’s Ministries is a non-profit Bible based discipleship program and ministry designed to rescue, restore, and release men and women facing destructive, lifedominating behaviors.

Please join us in making a difference by donating items from the following list:
Laundry detergent
Paper Towels
Toilet Tissues
Wash cloths
Deodorants
Trash bags (13 and 30 gal.)
Tooth brushes
Tooth Pastes
Dental Floss
Body Wash
Full-size Shampoos
Full-size Conditioners

Men’s White T-shirts up to size 4x

Collection Bins will be placed in the room off the Narthex for two Sundays, September 15 and September 22. Collected items will be divided and distributed to Clean Start and Haven of Rest the following week.

Together, we can bring a fresh start and a renewed sense of hope to many in our community!

9/1/24 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

 

  • I am happy to report that earlier this week, Marlys Hittner returned to her cottage at Brookdale, after a brief hospital stay and a brief period at AnMed Rehab.

  • The September edition of The Messenger was mailed out this afternoon.

  • Sunday, we will return to the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, or as it is commonly referred to, “the red hymnal.”

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the gospel text, Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23.

  • As you have probably experienced on your own, sometimes it seems that computers (and the internet) have a mind of their own, and do some strange things.  This past Thursday, I sent out the Sunday worship bulletin and the Weekly Congregational Updates, as I always do.  Because of the number of emails I have, they are sent out in three groups, all at the same time.  For some strange reason, all three groups received theirs at different times.  One group received their 2 emails immediately, another group received their 2 emails late that night, while the third group never received a copy of the Sunday bulletin.  I ended up sending out another copy of the worship bulletin on Friday.  Go figure!  If you ever do not receive both emails on Thursday, please reach out to me with a text.  (Every once in a while, I may wait until the next day, due to Thursday falling on a major holiday.)

8/25/24 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

 

Here are this week’s updates to pass along to you:

  • As a follow up to my announcements this past Sunday in worship:
    • Barbara Trent has returned home from her stay at AnMed.

  • Marlys Hittner continues her stay at AnMed Rehab for a recent fall.  She is in room 115. If you would like to stop by and visit with her, she is finished with her rehab each day by 3:00 p.m.
  • Earlier this week on Monday, Don Simon celebrated his 95th birthday!  Don is the oldest gentleman in our congregation.

  • With this Sunday being the last Sunday of the month, it will also be our last Sunday using the WOV hymnal (until next July and August).

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the Second Reading, Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (6:10-20).  We will be exploring his words of encouragement to put on the whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. I encourage you to read these words before worship as they are not printed on the back of the bulletin, due to lack of space.

  • Several of you have asked if I will be taking care of Bill Ebert’s service. Yes, I will be conducting his Memorial Service on Friday of next week. His obituary is listed under Thompson Funeral Home in Columbia, SC.

This would allow each teacher to commit to teaching for only one month each year.

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

 

Here are this week’s updates to pass along to you:

 

  • We had a great attendance at both worship services this past Sunday, 56 at both the Early Service and Late Service. It was great to see so many in worship!

  • A big Thank You to all who provided frozen casseroles to our service project for Calvary Home for Children.  Together, 31 casseroles were donated.

  • We are looking for 11 volunteers to help teach our new Children’s Sunday School class for 3 year olds – 5th grade.  This would allow each teacher to commit to teaching for only one month each year. There is a signup sheet in the narthex.  Please reach out to Kate Roehrs if you have any questions.

  • After a couple of weeks of experimenting with placing the Psalm into the liturgy, we discovered it was suddenly more difficult to locate during worship; so, beginning Sunday, you will find that the Psalm will be back in its original position, inside the back cover of the bulletin.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the Second Reading from Ephesians 5:15-20, where Paul urges us to “make the most of the time.”  We will take a look at what this means and how we can do this faithfully.

  • I am saddened to inform you of the death of Bill Ebert who died at home yesterday under the loving care of hospice.  We are very grateful for Bill’s devotion to the Lord through Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as our Congregational President in 2012 and 2013, taught the Adult Sunday School class, gave devotionals for our LMM meetings, served as a worship assistant and on the Service Committee, and delivered cookies to our visitors as part of the Cookie Patrol.  We keep his wife, Shirley, and their family in our thoughts and prayers. The burial is expected to take place at Fort Jackson, Columbia.  

“Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Charles William “Bill” Ebert.  Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming.  Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.”   – Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 283

9/11/24 Family Fun Night

FAMILY FUN NIGHT
We continue our monthly summer gatherings in Fellowship Hall for a time of Food, Fun & Fellowship around a Biblical theme. Adults and Kids of all ages are invited to join us! There will be crafts, games, and song. The meal will be provided.
WHEN: Wednesday, September 11th 5:30 –7:00 p.m.

God is the glue that brings us all together!

Everyone is invited to Rally Day 2024 to kick off a new year of Sunday school. It will be a time for good fellowship, food, and games for all ages.

When: September 8th
@10:00 a.m. (Sunday School hour)
Breakfast will be served!!

On September 15th Sunday school classes will be available for ages 3 years old-5th grade, Youth – 6th-12th and all adults.
ATTENTION: The Learning Committee is in need of 11 volunteers to help teach Sunday school to our 3 year olds -5th grade class. You will teach the class for only one month. This is a wonderful opportunity to not only serve Holy Trinity but also an opportunity to get to know the young children of the congregation. They are such blessings and we are excited to get Sunday school going again for this age group. A sign-up sheet is in the Narthex.
