7/24/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

A few updates to pass along to you this week include:

  1. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, August 7, as we will be hosting a birthday drop-in for the congregation for Ms. Jackie McConnell from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall that morning in between the worship services.  Ms. Jackie will be turning 100 years of age on August 9!  No gifts please.  Instead, your presence and perhaps a birthday card are the only things requested that day.

  2. This Saturday, we will again be gathering in Fellowship Hall to make sandwiches and lunch bags for those hungry in the Anderson area.  We begin at 10:00 a.m.

  3. Sunday, for our sermon message, we will take a look at Luke 11:1-13, and prayer.  I ask you to read, not only that passage, but our Old Testament passage as well [Genesis 18:20-32].  Questions to ponder:
    1. Why was this Old Testament text selected as a reading?
    2. What does this text tell us about God?
    3. What does this text have to do with the Lord’s Prayer?
    4. How does our view of God affect our prayer life?

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

7/17/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Blessings this summer day!  Here are a few things going on in the congregation:

  1. We extend a big Thank You to Diane Richardson for filling in for Pat in the office this week so that she could have some time off.

  2. Last night, we again had another incredible Summer Fun Night together as we focused on the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.   We had 45 in attendance as we enjoyed eating and catching up with each other, singing old favorites “Pass It On” and “Kumbaya My Lord” (it has been a long time since I last sung these two songs), acting out the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, making bird feeders using peanut butter and birdseed, as well as making S’mores around a campfire.

  3. Sunday I will be preaching on the gospel reading of Luke 10:38-42 which contains the story of Mary and Martha, one serving Jesus and his followers, as the other sister hung out with Jesus and did not help.  We will focus on handling the endless demands on our life but choosing the important ones.

  4. I ask a favor of you.  We currently do not have enough convenient parking for those who use the ramp entrance of the church.  If you are parking on Oakland Street (the side street) and are not physically challenged, would you please consider parking in the front of the church or the back of the church to free up spaces for those who could benefit greatly from parking near the ramp for easy access?  Thanks!!!

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

7/10/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Just a couple of things to pass along to you this week:

  • We had a great turnout last Saturday to make sandwiches to feed the hungry. In fact, we had 25 volunteers!  A reminder that we will NOT meet this Saturday for Saturday Servants but will again on Saturday, July 16.

  • Our next Summer Fun Night is fast approaching. We will gather on Wednesday, July 13 for our next Congregational event of Food, Fun, and Fellowship around the Biblical theme of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.  There is a Sign-Up Sheet in the Narthex to help with our food planning.  The meal of hamburgers will be provided.

  • For all of those joining us on Wednesday for the Summer Fun Night: Be sure to bring a paper towel or toilet paper cardboard roll ( not the whole roll, just the cardboard from the middle) for yourself and each of your family members attending for our craft.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

07/03/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of the Congregation,

Here are a few things of interest for you this day:

  1. Last night we had a great turnout for our first Summer Fun Night with 45 gathered in Fellowship Hall.  We began with a supper of hotdogs, watermelon slices, chips and a bucket of snack food. Our theme was The Creation Story.  We sang: “He’s God The Whole World In His Hands,” and “This Is My Father’s World,” and “For the Beauty of the Earth.”  We then heard again the Creation Story as we acted out our parts, followed by a Creation Scavenger Hunt and a Craft time of painting clay pots and then planting seeds in them.  Come join our next Summer Fun Night on Wednesday, July 13.

  2. The July/August Messenger was mailed out earlier today.  Hopefully your copy will arrive in the mail soon.

  3. This coming Saturday, July 2 will be our first Saturday Servants Event.  We now have all the needed items donated.  All we need now is YOU!  We would like to have 15-20 each week to help make sandwiches and lunch bags for the hungry in the Anderson area.  We will gather at 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Please DO NOT come early so that we have enough for all to do.  The making of the sandwiches takes about 30-45 minutes. Then for those who would like to participate, about 5-6 of us will go over to the Anderson Soup Kitchen to give out the food at 11:00 a.m.  This will take about 20-30 minutes.  There is no Sign Up sheet.  Simply show up Saturday morning. If you have any questions, please contact Leslie Cox, our Service Committee Chair, at 301-788-9035.

  4. To be honest with you, I did not feel pulled to preach on any of the texts assigned for this Sunday.  After a few days of struggle, I decided to preach on the theme of July 4, specifically, freedom and civility.  Much of the music for Sunday is patriotic.  I hope you will join us as we celebrate the blessings of our great nation.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer
