10/16/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates:

  • I am saddened to inform you of the death of Bill Christmas earlier this afternoon at the Rainey Hospice House.  We keep his children – Cindy, Andy, and Anna, and all of the family members in our thoughts and prayers.   Sullivan-King will be handling the arrangements.  “Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, William Anderson Christmas, III.  Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming.  Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.”   – Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 283
  • Our Deutches Fest will take place this Saturday in Fellowship Hall and in the back parking lot from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  After being away from worship the past several weeks, Bill had intended to be with us Saturday for his return to being active in our congregation.  Some of his last words were that we would “raise a glass” on his behalf at this event.
  • If you are not aware of the connection to the congregation, the young man killed Monday afternoon on Midway Road in a traffic accident, Daniel Bagwell, was Sharon Christmas’ nephew.  We keep all of Daniel’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
  • After recently finishing radiation and chemo therapy for cancer of his esophagus, Allan Cole underwent surgery most of today at Emory University Hospital.  His surgery went well and finished up about 5:30 p.m. We keep Jeri, and the family in our thoughts and prayers.
  • Thank you so much for the many responses I received after last week’s volunteer requests!  Both positions are now filled.
  • In order to reduce some of Pat’s workload as our church secretary, we are in the process of making both bulletins identical to each other.  You will recall that when COVID began in 2020, we started sending out an email version of the bulletin that was designed to be used in conjunction with our recorded worship service.  This bulletin has been slightly different and longer than the one we print on Sunday morning.  Beginning today, with the one I will send out in a few minutes, the email version of the bulletin will be identical with Sunday’s version except that the order of the pages is slightly different.  We plan to figure out a way to make the pages in order in the near future.
  • Sunday, I will be preaching on one of my favorite topics – prayer.  I will be using the gospel lesson, Luke 18:1-8 AND the Old Testament lesson from Genesis 32:22-31 to talk about what persistent prayer looks like.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

10/09/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Some things to pass along to you this week:

  1. This past Sunday afternoon we had quite the assortment of participants for our Blessing of the Animals.  The animals outnumbered the people.  We had 24 animals (14 dogs, 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 4 sugar gliders and 1 macaw) and 22 human beings.  A good time was had by all. We will soon have photos on our church website.

  2. Don’t forget.  Sunday is the last day to purchase your Deutches Fest tickets!  All money raised will be given to Good Neighbor Cupboard.

  3. Giving Thanks will be our theme for this Sunday as we take a look at the Gospel reading, Luke 17:11-19 and the story of the 10 lepers cured but only one returns thanks to the Lord.

  4. To date, no one replied to my email week, looking for a volunteer.  Here is the article again:  We are looking for one more volunteer to assist Dave Korn and me in a monthly rotation of replacing the sanctuary candle and inspecting the fire extinguishers on the church property.  What is involved?  For your assigned month (which would be once every 3 months) you would be responsible for changing the sanctuary candle (the one hanging down near the altar) each week, using a 3-foot step ladder, and once a month you would need to inspect all 13 fire extinguishers in the buildings.  The candle replacing takes about 5 minutes each week and the inspections of the fire extinguishers will take about 20 minutes each month.  If you are interested in serving the Lord in this way, please speak with me or reply to this email.  If you need more information, let me know.

  5. Also, we are looking for someone to volunteer to help in our church library, restocking the returned books.  This will take about 20-30 minutes, once each month.  If books are your thing and you are limited in physical activity, and you are interested in serving the Lord in this capacity, please see me.
  6. Wednesday of next week is our Family Fun Night from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Come out and join us in Fellowship Hall as supper will be provided, we will do a couple of songs, hear the Bible story of the Good Samaritan (and God’s grace), and create a craft.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30

REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30
We remember Martin Luther, born in 1483, nine years before Columbus
discovered America. He studied law at the age of 21; became a priest at 23
and a doctor of theology at 28; wrote and nailed the 95 thesis at age 33 and
34; was ex-communicated and became a fugitive at 38; translated the Bible
into German at 40; and died from a stroke at the age of 63, an internationally
admired leader. His teachings stressed justification by faith, universal
priesthood of believers; and supremacy of scripture which form the
cornerstone of Protestantism. [Please wear red on this Sunday.]

10/2/22 Weekly Congregational Email

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Some things to pass along to you this week:

  1. The October Messenger was mailed out this afternoon.

  2. Sunday, I will be preaching on the Second Reading, 2 Timothy 1:1-14, as we take a look at Timothy and his life of faith and what we can learn from him.  In preparation for this message, it will be helpful for you to explore Timothy on your computer or phone. This will not take much time.

  3. As of right now, we will still have our Blessing of the Animals Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in the back packing lot. I am keeping an eye on the predicted weather that is coming our way.  Late Sunday afternoon should be clear.   If the weather changes and we need to postpone this event, I will let you know Sunday during the announcements and with a brief email.  This is an informal time together with the animals we love.  This service will take about 20 minutes and I hope you will bring your pets out for a blessing.  For those smaller pets or those that do not do well with other animals, you may choose to leave them in your vehicle during the service and I will come over to them. What animals can you bring?  As I like to put it, “If you can place it in your vehicle, I will bless it.”

  4. We are looking for one more volunteer to assist Dave Korn and me in a monthly rotation of replacing the sanctuary candle and inspecting the fire extinguishers on the church property.  What is involved?  For your assigned month, you would be responsible for changing the sanctuary candle (the one hanging down near the altar) each week, using a 3-foot step ladder, and once a month you would need to inspect all 13 fire extinguishers in the buildings.  The candle replacing takes about 5 minutes each week and the inspections of the fire extinguishers will take about 15-20 minutes each month.  If you are interested in serving the Lord in this way, please speak with me or reply to this email.  If you need more info, let me know.

Pastor Fischer
