7/23/23 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are some things to pass along to you for the good of the congregation:

• This past Saturday, we gave out all the food we had prepared as part of Saturday Servants in only 13 minutes. With that in mind, we will be making more sandwiches than usual this week. For the past two weeks, we have had an excellent turn out with volunteers and we are anticipating another successful event from you. See you this Saturday in Fellowship Hall at 10:00 a.m.

• Sunday I will be preaching on the Parable of the Weeds and Wheat recorded in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-40 as we grapple with the meaning of this challenging story. Why does the Lord recommend letting the weeds and wheat grow together and how does this apply to us today?

• Sunday, we will begin receiving frozen casseroles for Calvary Home of Children as part of our next outreach service project for the community. This project will continue for 8 days, until the following Sunday, July 30. Casseroles are to be placed in the Fellowship Hall freezer. If you have any questions about this, please call Jane Potter at 225-6460.

• Congratulations go out to Paul and Diane Wagner on the birth of their first grandchild, Anna Walker Wagner, born to Rachael and Daniel Wagner!

• Please mark your calendars that on July 30, with that being a 5th Sunday of the month, we will have One Combined Worship Service at 10:00 a.m., followed by a potluck meal in Fellowship Hall. Please bring a dish to share.

  • Congratulations go out to Rachel and Christopher Caldwell on the birth of Lydia Grace Caldwell, born Friday morning!  We also celebrate with proud grandparents Chris and Anna Caldwell, uncle Connor, great uncle and aunt Andy and Sharon Christmas, and second cousin Bill.

  • We keep in our prayers, Warren Lutz, who underwent pacemaker/defibrillator surgery earlier in the week.

  • Just a heads up, if you are planning on contacting Pat on Monday, she will be out of the office, taking the day off.

In Christ,
Pastor Fischer

7/16/23 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of HTLC,

Here are this week’s updates:

  • We keep in our prayers, Diane Wagner and her family, upon the death of her mother yesterday, Frances Campbell.
  • The latest Statements of Giving are in the narthex, ready for you to pick up.
  • Saturday of this week, you are invited to join us in Fellowship Hall at 10:00 a.m. as we make sandwiches and bagged lunches as part of our Saturday Servants project in feeding the hungry.
  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the gospel text, Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23, as we explore the Parable of the Sower and the Four Types of Soil. I encourage you to read this story and to think how it might apply to us today.
  • Please mark your calendars that with July 30th being a 5th Sunday, we will have ONE COMBINED WORSHIP SERVICE at 10:00 a.m., followed with a Potluck meal.

7/9/23 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of HTLC,

Just a couple of things to relay to you about things going on in our congregation this week and next:

  • Please keep in mind that there is no Saturday Servants project taking place this week.   Even though Holy Trinity has the responsibility of providing bagged lunches for the month of July, another organization takes care of the 2nd Saturday of each month for the year.

  • The Service Committee is sponsoring another outreach opportunity for the congregation.  We will be receiving donations of frozen casseroles for Calvary Home for Children beginning July 23 through July 30.  Please see The Messenger or a bulletin for all the details or call Jane Potter at 225-6460.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the gospel text of Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30 as we focus on what it means to hear the words of Christ, to be yoked to Him.

  • Wednesday, of next week, July 12, we will be gathering in Fellowship Hall for our next Summer Fun Night.  Our theme will be, “The Parable of the Lost Coin.”   Supper will be provided and we would love for you to come join us beginning at 6:00 p.m.  This is for all ages.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

07/02/23 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are a few things to pass along to you:

  • The Messenger was mailed out on Tuesday.  Many of you have already received this issue.  Please keep in mind that this is for the months of July and August.  This is the only time of the year when we cover two months at one time.
  • We have now received all the food items we need for Saturday Servants.  Thank you for your generosity!  The only thing we now need is you.  We will gather on Saturday morning, in Fellowship Hall, at 10:00 a.m. to make sandwiches to feed those hungry in the Anderson area.  Please do not arrive early as we have plenty of time to complete this project.  Then at 11:00 a.m. we will need about 5-7 volunteers to take the sandwiches over to the Anderson Soup Kitchen to give out the bags of food.  This generally takes about 30 minutes.
  • Sunday, we will switch over to using the blue With One Voice hymnal during the months of July and August.  It has been several years since we have done this but we will be returning to this long-held tradition of our congregation for a short change of variety in our worship service.
  • Sunday, in celebration of the 4th of July, we will be signing the much beloved hymn “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” and I will be preaching on the Second Reading from Paul’s letter to the Romans [6:12-23], focusing on True Freedom.

May the Lord continue to bless our nation!

Pastor Fischer

Share your garden’s abundance and help hunger

If you have an abundance of vegetables from your garden, would you please share them with the congregation?

There will be a chair in the Narthex for you to place your extra garden veggies for people to share for a small donation for World Hunger.

Any vegetables that are left will be taken to the Anderson Soup Kitchen.

Saturday Servants

Saturday Servants

Thank you to the congregation for your generosity in providing the needed peanut butter, jelly, snack cakes, mayonnaise bottled water. We now have all needed items.

Again this year, HTLC will prepare bagged lunches for the Anderson Emergency Soup Kitchen through the Saturday Servants Program.
We will begin each Saturday in July (except for the second Saturday) at 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. At 11:00 a.m. the food will be given away to the community at the Anderson Soup Kitchen for those who would like to participate.

In the gospel of Matthew (25:35, 40) Jesus says, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

06/25/23 Weekly congregational update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates to pass along to you:

• The Quilting Groups in the congregation have been very busy. Sunday, as part of the worship service, we will be blessing the 48 quilts and 12 fabric kits that have been made, before they are sent overseas to those in need.

• Sunday, I will be preaching on the Gospel text, Matthew 10:24-39, where Jesus warns his followers that they may meet opposition but promises always to be with them. We will explore how sparrows are connected with this passage.

• We are very close to having all the food items we need for our upcoming Saturday Servants project. Items may be placed into the room off the narthex into special bins marked “Saturday Servants.” Items still needed are:
a. 254 individual snack size bags of salty snacks (pretzels, chips, etc.)
b. 150 bottles of water (16 oz plastic bottles)

• You are reminded to refrain from giving out the general church door code to florists. If you set up altar flowers for a particular Sunday, most florists already have a code. If not, have them contact the church office as all florists have an entry code that is different from the one the church members use. If you need more details on this, please contact me.

• This past Monday morning we had 21 church members participate in the United Way’s SnackPack program, putting together meals for school children in the Anderson area. Please see photo below. Thanks to all who took part in this food outreach ministry. If you are interested in being on the email list of participants for future workdays, contact Mike Cox.

In Christ,
Pastor Fischer

06/18/23 Weekly Congregational update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s congregational updates:

  • Attached are some links summarizing some of the happenings of last week’s SC Synod Assembly, including the worship service as well as the presentations.

  • The new Christ in Our Home devotionals, for the months of July – September are in the narthex ready for you to pick up a copy.

  • A reminder that this Sunday is the deadline for all donated items for our Nursery “Flowers in Bloom” project to be dropped off to the Church Office Parlor.  We are very grateful to Suzie Bannister, Anna Caldwell, Connor Caldwell,  and Beth Cribbe for going through our old nursery items, coming up with a list of needed replacement items, and then creating and implementing our wonderful “Flowers in Bloom” project and for the generosity of the congregation!

  • As part of the announcements Sunday, we will be recognizing all fathers in attendance at worship.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on the gospel text, Matthew 9:35-10:23, specifically, verse 8, “You received without payment; give without payment”, basically reminding each of us that we have been blessed abundantly by God and are now asked to bless others.

  • Our latest tally of Encouragement Cards that were created by members of the congregation for the United Way BackPack program is 709 cards!  Wow!  Thanks so much to all who took part in this outreach ministry.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer
