01/25/26 Weekly Congregational Update
Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,
Here are this week’s updates to pass along to you:
- I know that the impeding weather is much on our minds, right now. I spoke to Mike Oates of Duke Power early this afternoon. If this oncoming weather is anything like what is predicted, the ice and potential power outages will be of main concern to many of us. He told me that Duke Power is calling up 12,000 men from their crews in other states, and an additional 20,000 workers from other companies are heading toward our area and then to other states.
- If the power goes out for any length of time, for those who do not have another source of heat, life will be very miserable (think back to 2005’s ice storm). With that in mind, I encourage those of you with gas or wood burning fireplaces to possibly offer a place to stay for your neighbors and those in our congregation. If you are willing to hosts a church member (or two) who needs a place to stay, if we lose power, please send me back a REPLY. If you anticipate needing a play to stay, please send me a REPLY (especially those of you who live alone). I will try to hook you up with each other but keep in mind that if I lose power, I will be unable to communicate with anyone.
- At this point, it is highly unlikely that we will have worship services on Sunday. Rynde Dial (our congregational president) and I will make that decision on Saturday and we will activate the congregational phone tree, if needed, and a member of the church council will contact you.
- We have already postponed Ernie Thoms’ Recognition Event that was to take place Sunday, to Sunday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
- We have already cancelled the LMM supper meeting that was to take place on Monday evening.
- In other news, we keep Olin Bell in our prayers who underwent knee replacement surgery earlier this afternoon.
- We celebrate with Susan Askew on the birth of her grandson, Parker Jones Askew, born January 15th to parents, Chris and Curry Ann Askew.
In Christ,
Pastor Fischer
