11/27/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving (and my usual day to send out these updates) I am sending them one day early.  Here are this week’s congregational updates:

  • It goes without saying, but please take time tomorrow as you get ready to eat your Thanksgiving feast(s), to give thanks to the Lord for His abundant blessings – the food, your family, your health, and His love for us.

  • Sunday we begin the season of Advent and there are several new opportunities for gathering and worship.

  • If you did not yet pick up your families’ copy of the new Advent devotional, from the narthex, please do so.

  • Sunday, I will be preaching on both the Second Lesson (Romans 13:11-14) and the Gospel (Matthew 24:36-44) as the Lord encourages up to “Keep awake!”

  • Sunday afternoon, we are offering an Advent Event for the Congregation at 3:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  We will have crafts to kick off the Advent season.  There is a signup sheet in the narthex to help us plan for the materials.

  • Then a week from tonight, November 30, we will begin the first of three of our Midweek Advent meals and Worship services.  Each week a different group from the congregation will be preparing a meal and it will be served at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  A free-will offering will be received for this.  Then, after a 3-year hiatus, we will be returning to the Holden Evening Prayer service for our Mid-week Advent Worship service.   This service begins each week at 7:00 p.m. and will last about 35 minutes.

In Thanksgiving,

Pastor Fischer

3) This coming Sunday, I will be preaching on a Thanksgiving theme, based upon our Second Reading from Colossians 1:11-20.

4) Sunday, at the Late Service, we will be welcoming 3 new members into the Holy Trinity family.

5) We have moved our Annual Congregational Christmas Pageant a week later than what was previously published. It will take place on Sunday, December 18 at the Late Service.

11/13/22 Weekly Congregational Updates

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Some things of interest to pass along to you, include:

1) Our Congregational Meeting will take place Sunday in Fellowship Hall, beginning at 9:50 a.m. We will be doing two things, voting on new Council members and approving a budget for next year. The information on the 8 candidates for the Church Council are listed in recent bulletins and the November Messenger. We will be choosing 4. Please be on time for the meeting as the very first item of business will be the election. As far as the budget for 2023, you have received a copy of it in your November Messenger. If you need an explanation of any line item in the budget, you may reach out to Diane Richardson, our Congregational Treasurer, before the meeting. Please note: a heavy continental breakfast will be served.

2) To the men of the church, please be aware that our next LMM meeting will take place at a new time and date, so that we can do an outreach ministry together in the month of November. We will gather on Wednesday of next week at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. After our meal together, and a program, we will assemble food kits for Meals on Wheels of Anderson. The food items have already been purchased. All we need now is you to help put them together.

3) What is your view of the future and what exactly are we supposed to be doing? As we near the end of the Church Year many of the passages look at the end of times. Sunday for our message we will be focusing on the gospel reading, Luke 21:5-19 and our Second Reading from 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13 where Paul deals with those who are idle as they wait.

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer

11/27 CONGREGATIONAL ADVENT EVENT

CONGREGATIONAL ADVENT EVENT

Although the world has already started stocking shelves with Christmas décor, airing Christmas commercials and blaring Christmas music over the radio, Lutheran Christians know that before Christmas comes Advent. The definition of the word Advent is, “the arrival of a notable, person, place or event.” It is during this first season of our liturgical calendar, that we prepare for the Christmas coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This year, the Learning Committee will once again be sponsoring an event to begin our Advent journey with a craft project.

This event is for all families and individuals who would like to participate. This project will help us keep our focus on the true meaning of the season.

WHEN: Sunday, November 27 at 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Fellowship Hall
WHO: Everyone. A signup sheet will be in the narthex to help plan for materials.
WHAT: Advent Family Event

11/6/22 Weekly Congregational Update

Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,

Here are this week’s updates concerning the congregation:

  1. The Messenger was mailed out earlier this week, on Tuesday.

  2. Even though we will not be blessing the Time/Talent Sheets/Pledges as part of the worship service, you may still return them at any time in the next several weeks.  You can do this by either placing them in the offering plate during the worship service, or mailing them back to the church.  If you need extra copies, they are located in the Narthex.

  3. Don’t forget to reset your clocks Saturday before you go to bed.  The time changes and I don’t want you to give up an extra hour of sleep unnecessarily.

  4. Sunday is All Saints Sunday when we will remember those who have gone on to be with the Lord, especially those who have died since last year’s All Saints Service.  As part of the Prayers of God’s People, we will be remembering:
    • Elizabeth Herron
    • Anita Brady
    • Marion Howell
    • Bob Long, Sr.
    • Bill Christmas

In Christ,

Pastor Fischer
